Distracted

I used to use distraction effectively with Pari. Be it to stop her from crying, from throwing tantrums, or indulging in hazardous activities, I was pretty happy with my skills at diverting her attention to something soothing, seemingly harmless within moments.

But the story has developed a twist in the past few days. If it was limited to her persistent crying, throwing tantrums and the like I wouldn’t have been so concerned for I would have devised other tricks. Pari seems to have learnt and even mastered my trick and now successfully uses it on me to do things I usually stop her from doing.

Picture this. Pari has often noted that I follow her gaze to keep an eye on her possible targets. Whenever she is upto some mischief (as in eyeing to put her hand into something dangerous, or trying to eat anything I don’t want her to, or is trying to fiddle with an electric power point) I lift her up and make her sit in my lap.

At those times, she turns away from the target and tries to reach something very different from the original object of interest. The moment I am busy with the new object (trying to move it or doing anything similar, Pari will stretch herself/ bend to the maximum to reach her original target.

The most comic of all those naughty moments being, when I tell her firmly, “Pari NO” she sometimes retorts by saying, “Mumma bow-bow” mimicking our pet dog.

  1. Awww that was a real cute post. I have also seen someone very close, do this when she was small. She used to mimic her mother and scream back, NO MAMMA!! 🙂

Kids are truly a joy to be with – specially in this age group.!

    1. She is pretty much successful in her attempts, this is the state when she can hardly say a few things… I cannot even imagine what lies ahead 🙂

  3. Ha ha ha . I love such smart babies 😀 Well, but every baby/ child knows how to outwit their Moms. When you think you’ve mastered all their tricks, they come up with the new one.
    Love the post!
