- Pari has always disliked wearing a bib. I couldn’t tie one even when she was hardly a couple of months old, for she would resist, cry and force me to remove it then & there. It hasn’t changed till date.
- Pari is strongly agitated when I try to shampoo or oil her hair. She doesn’t like the very thought of someone playing with her hair. I must confess she has inherited it from my father.
- She is a fussy eater, not a picky one. Feeding her is a big challenge that almost always ends with me eating baby food (as in mashes, etc.) for she doesn’t have molars yet. As much as I am into food, she is equally not interested in the subject of foods altogether.
- Pari loves fruits unconditionally and her love is equal for all types. Though I try my best to not be caught in a situation to have to eat fruits. The end result being I feed her my share too.
- Just in case if you were thinking, let me clarify here itself #3 and #4 don’t balance out each other. No way. Neither for me nor for Pari, for eating all food types is important.
- Pari was very scared of crackers this Diwali. She was too young to bother last year, but this time she was wailing and big fat tears rolled down her cheeks for a long time on the two main days of the festival of lights. Though she finally pacified after a lot of reassurances from everyone in the house.
- I guess I have already said this many times, Pari doesn’t like sweets and refuses to eat sweets irrespective of how tempted she initially might be by the look of it. Chocolates, halwa, kheer, (store-bought) mithai and even ice-creams included. Though Vanilla custard has been a rare exception till date with a few of my cakes too joining it.
- Pari has developed rashes on her cheeks, which are thankfully non-itchy and are responding very well to the prescribed medications. *touch wood*
- I have recently noted a trait she has actually inherited from me. Though there are many big or small other habits too that I fail/ refuse to acknowledge to have been passed on from me but this one is unmistakable. She is very shy and quiet with strangers, outside the safety and confines of our home. It’s so like me and I can actually remember myself behaving like her when I was very little, maybe 3 or 4 years of age. Though I still take time to warm up to strangers, but yes, with age and experience I have changed.
- Pari has slowly started growing fond of books and colorful pictures. Please don’t give me that kind of shocked look. I understand many kids fall in love with books from the day they spot one, but my daughter has slowly evolved from being in love with tearing pages to someone who now tries to capture images from the book in her mind.
- She absolutely loves Punjabi songs and her current craze is on the beats of the songs from Son of Sardar. No we haven’t seen the movie, but it’s songs playing on the radio are enough to make Pari dance as if she’s trying to do her own kind of Bhangra.
- Trying to brush her teeth is slowly getting into a routine though it’s pretty tough trying to get her to open her mouth long enough for me to clean all teeth surfaces for her. Though she hasn’t fallen for the love of trying to chew on her baby brush. Mommies out there, any special tricks you used with cleaning baby teeth? If yes, please share and enlighten me.
- I think there is an early onset of what is famously called ‘terrible twos’ in case of my daughter. You can see her throwing tantrums at the drop of a hat. She knows how to emotionally blackmail me to get things done her way, though am slowly evolving to be a smart mommy and mastering the art of Ignoring! You can actually see an emotional tug of war going on between me and her. Pari trying to get things done her way and I struggling to teach her life lessons my way. No prizes for guessing who wins. It’s her most of the times.
- Her sleep patterns have become quite regular. *touch wood* I just wanted to add this point as a message to new mommies, that in case your baby too doesn’t follow a set sleep pattern please don’t panic for eventually all habits will fall into a routine. I understand it’s easier preached than done, but the message that there is nothing to worry is sometimes all that one needs.
- It just dawned on me, did you actually understand the reason why I decided to name this post Sixteen? If yes, let me add that this kind of update was long over-due and updates on Pari’s antics are far from being over. So please be patient for another Pari post shall follow shortly. If you couldn’t guess the reason why I titled this post sixteen, please refer to the next point.
- Pari is now sixteen months old.
The song on my mind: Ye lamhe ye pal hum ~ Lamhe
Wait till she becomes 16 years old. You will be faced with different set of challenges and issues.

Isn’t it good that she likes fruits instead of chocolates & sweets??
She loves Punjabi songs.. wow.. want to see her doing bhangra.. balle balle!!!!
While reading 12th point, I remember, Salman Khan & Sonakshi Sinha doing some gestures with their mouth as if they are gargling after brushing in Big boss 6.. Salman also said that if your kid is not brushing teeth, show your kid this step of the song.. I am not sure but I guess the song is from Son of Sardar movie π try.. try.. π

I always fail to understand why children do not like eating food. Till now I haven’t met an eager child ready to gulp down his food. π
One of my friend told me something shocking. He thought that he will not run after his child for food. Eventually the child will be hungry and ask for it but he actually starved instead of eating anything. Is this true for all children?
LikeLike
Well you should have met me when I was a baby, I have been one of those few kids who has never fussed over what she wants to eat, ever. Not even in my teens, in hostel, overseas, never. Having said that I am really amused by the way Pari tries to run from food.
What your friend said is a thought I guess every parent thinks of, though in reality this can never be implemented until someone is very lucky. The sole reason being in first place you can’t even imagine to leave your child go hungry for long. Secondly trying to starve the child will hurt a parent more with guilt long before it hurts the baby. If someone decides to stay determined and lets a baby stay hungry, the cry and wailing will get so unbearable and the child will refuse to let you feed him/her anything let alone the food item he/she doesn’t like. So it is a lost battle better not fought.
Though one has to find new tricks every now and then to get to push a few nutritive morsels down the ever-smart-babies’ throat. That’s something very tiring & frustrating on many occasions π¦

π My son is 2+ and brushing his teeth is as difficult. He doesn’t let me hold thebrush as he wants to do ‘khud se’ and most importantly he doesn’t want to brush. Then I showed him an application on my android phone where a Cat called Ginger brushes her teeth. Thankfully things are improving after that. So message for u, don’t panic there is time and why u worrying as is she doesn’t eat sweets na? π *bhaago*
And it was fun to read this post because with this I remembered Arnav’s milestones too π
