How To Flip The Switch From Overwhelmed To Unstoppable

I’m going to let you in on a hard-earned truth about that dreaded feeling we call ‘overwhelm.’

It only rears its ugly head when we start buying into the lie that we can’t handle what’s on our plate.

The second we entertain that ‘I can’t’, well, that’s when the overwhelm starts creeping in.

But here’s the thing – that is not the time to start pumping the brakes or lightening the load. No.

That’s the precise moment you need to dig deep and decide ‘I can and I will.‘ You’ve got to flip that negative script on its head.

Because what if, just what if, you really are more capable than you’re giving yourself credit for?

That inherent capability is inside each and every one of us, just waiting to be unleashed. It’s simply a matter of tapping into that well of belief that says ‘I’ve got this.’

When you make that mental shift and start operating from a place of unshakable self-assuredness, that’s when the magic happens.

Keep executing, keep showing up as your most capable self, and BAM – overwhelm gets knocked right off its pedestal.

The power to overcome was within you all along.

You just had to access it and own it.

And let me tell you, there’s no more empowering feeling than staring down a challenge and declaring with every fibre of your being, ‘I’m capable of this.’

Try it on for size – I have a feeling it’ll be a revelation.

I remember the EXACT moment I first stepped into believing that I would lose all my extra weight for the final time. My brain wanted to tell me that I wasn’t capable.

But I am the director. I tell it what to do.

I was cycling on my static bike at 6 pm. It was an unusually busy day that forced me to push my workout time to the evening (something I dislike because I love exercising in the morning).

My bike is my go-to workout on days when I want to exercise but aren’t feeling energetic enough to indulge in strength training. I was mentally preparing to have a fun time on the trampoline soon after.

Just then, the thought that I was going to lose all my weight hit me like a lightning bolt. I held onto it for only a few seconds. I felt it in my bones. I KNEW IT.

I told myself, “I am capable of figuring this out. I want to figure this out. I can do this.”

Then I decided, “It’s going to be simple,” and “This is how I will do it.”

But not just that. I saw the clear path for the first time. It felt so easy. Natural. Exactly how it will happen.

My brain wanted to offer me thoughts about how hard it would be. How I couldn’t handle it. How I didn’t understand the scope.

I kept directing it back to, “This is simple. I am going to use common sense to be my guiding light.”

A plan to keep track of every small lifestyle change. And to keep things as simple as possible.

In the long run, only the simple practices get followed. And that’s exactly what became the centre stone of my weight loss strategy.

I wasn’t here just for a low number on the scale or a small dress size.

I was in it to mend my relationship with food.

I was in it to show true gratitude towards all my body has done and does every second of my existence.

In simpler terms, developing new habits that would serve me well, in the long run, was what I have been aiming at from the get-go.

Then, I started simplifying them.

I busied myself in breaking down every step into its simplest form till doing it every day became almost effortless.

I constantly told myself, “I can do this. This will be fun. It’s a chance to connect with myself.”

Along the way, I learned every bit of science that drives our physiology.

On the side, I was working on accommodating the simplified steps into my calendar. I decided to be clear on what work I needed to do long-term.

I continued simplifying, planning and clarifying my action steps in writing. In great detail.

Looking back I can safely say, I made a lot of decisions in the time I took to shed 27 kg (60 pounds).

My brain was tired. It wanted to stop. It offered me overwhelm.

I told it, “I am capable.”

I got to work.

This work didn’t end with me losing all the weight.

Maintenance required me to keep practicing it because you can’t maintain an achievement till you are willing to keep doing whatever got you to your goal.

After 5+ years in maintenance, my brain continues to offer me overwhelm. I continue to offer it capability. In return, I get to maintain my success.

Every time I do this I increase my capability.

Actually, what I do is, increase my ability to tap into my capability. You see, it’s inherent. We all have infinite amounts.

We just aren’t in practice at tapping in.

We are well-versed in letting our brain tell us we are overwhelmed and agreeing. We have reinforced this our whole lives.

But it’s there. The capability. Waiting inside you. Waiting to come out. To do. Your dreams. The big thing you have always wanted.

It’s there. Find it. Not once. Every day.

If you truly, deeply want a change DECIDE and get started at making it happen.

Until it becomes a habit.
