My darling Pari,
You’ll be told and taught this countless times that parents are super-humans for they magically created you and gifted you with life. It is a half-baked truth that has been cleverly covered in the icing of control.
Never fall for it.
We parents (including grandparents) are ordinary human beings. We too have had our moments of meltdown, failures, falls and frustrations in the course of our lives. We weren’t always the thoughtful, clever, know-it-all just as we often come across to you. These are virtues learnt over time with experience that comes with living the gift of life.
The best thing about being ordinary is we can make mistakes and still smile for we aren’t meant to be perfect or flawless. The same way, any day when you feel you’ve been wrong, you’ve failed to feel free to come to me and share it with me for I will understand how you feel. I will know what’s on your mind for I too would have been in your shoes sometime in the past. I promise to never judge you.
We as parents might not possess super-powers to undo all wrong with a magic wand or steal all hurt in a touch but we are people who love you more than anything in this universe, even ourselves. It’s the bond of love that gives us the magical strength, the added instincts, the insight and the aura of knowing the unsaid.
We too are wrong, we too fail to be just no matter how much we’d want to be. In those times, please remember that your mum too is just a human being and forgive her.
With loads of love and blessings,
